REV. THOMAS C. HILL
The Reverend Thomas C. Hill III is a native of Dallas, Texas. The second child of six children born to Thomas C. Hill, Jr and Martha Dunn Hill, he is the eldest of their three sons.
Thomas is a graduate of Southern Methodist University with a BA in Political Science (1973) and a Master’s in Public Administration (1975) and a Master’s in Divinity (1982) from Boston University’s School of Theology.
An Elder in the United Methodist Church, he is
a full member of the California-Pacific Annual Conference. He has served on several boards and agencies of the church including the Board of Ordained Ministry, the boards of Church & Society, Global Ministries and the Urban Foundation. Thomas served as the L.A. district’s coordinator of relief services following the 1992 urban civil unrest. He a representative on the South Central Shalom Zone and the Western Jurisdiction Urban Network.
He has been active in a number of church and community organizations over the years such as Black Methodists for Church Renewal, SCLC, NAACP, Progressive Christians Uniting and Women’s HIV/AIDS Project at L.A. Southwest College.
Thomas has served several church appointments in the Cal-Pac conference in Los Angeles (including as an associate pastor at Holman), Inglewood and Venice.
From 2001 to 2007, he was superintendent of the Pasadena District followed by five years as Director of Connections and Justice for the conference overseeing ministries engaged in justice and compassion as well as representing the conference in ecumenical ministries.
Rev. Hill’s last local church appointment was to the combined Vermont Square / Wesley Parish.
In 2013, several health crises resulted in Rev. Hill being placed on incapacity leave until he reached retirement age. As a result, Rev. Hill retired from active service June 30th, 2018.
His loving family includes wife Carla Hill, and daughters Jennifer and Rachel.
