Jazz for the Soul Worship: Honoring Women Veterans

Our speaker for Jazz for the Soul is Sgt. Mayra Plascencia, a United States Marine Corp veteran and Women’s Outreach Coordinator for New Directions for Veterans.  Listen to Sgt. Plascencia share about the experience of Women Veterans on LA Talk Radio last December.

Sgt. Latrice McBride, a US Army veteran, is known in the veteran community as the project manager for the historical launch of Long Beach’s First Annual Women Veteran Stand Down and the 2nd Annual Women Veteran Stand Down in Los Angeles, “Women with a Purpose.” A former veteran representative with EDD Ms. McBride has been recognized by Federal, State, and local public officials for her outstanding dedication to women veterans in the State of California.  Ms. McBride’s community efforts reflect: homeless food ministry, veteran women outreach radio program “Returning Home,” and her advocacy for all veterans.

Guest Vocalist Kym Foley

Kym Foley, a Southern California native, has a varied background including films, theatrical productions and numerous television appearances including That’s So Raven on the Disney Channel, Motown: The Early Years and as the lead singer of The Six Teens with Doo Wop’s Best on PBS.  Her versatile vocal stylings allow her to sing Classical, Pop, Gospel, Blues and R&B, as well as Jazz. She is the co-writer of the show, Black Heritage: A Musical Anthology which traces the roots of American music and it’s history over the centuries starting from Negro Spirituals to present day. She is currently working on her CD and the title song Stand Up! was heard on Extreme Clutter on the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN).
